(All soundscapes contain random, complementary elements such as sea gulls or foghorns so they won't become repetitive.) In its unique adaptive mode, when the background noise level jumps--for example, due to a passing ambulance or a neighbor's party--the device instantly raises the volume of the soundscape to coun teract the disturbance. It can also be set to run only when the room falls quiet, allowing you to carry on a conversation, or at a volume set manually. The lifelike soundscapes are designed by professional musicians and replicated in 18-bit high fidelity, exceeding the 16-bit quality of CDs.
