Description
The ice formation patterns of lakes and polar ice provided the inspiration for this ice trace by Jacky TC Wu of Hualien, Taiwan. The insulated base allows water to freeze from the top to bottom, layer by layer. Air and impurities are compressed to the bottom where they form a layer of 'white' or opaque ice. What’s left behind for use is a block of crystal clear ice. Crack pieces from the singular block for cold drinks. Or use as a cold block for sushi or crudite. Jacky suggests even freezing flowers for decoration. The pebble-like form is intended to reflect the principles of organic purity and simplicity. Red Dot Design Award 2009.
